On July 28 1914 Walter Gordon Wilson joined the British
navy in the royal naval armored car division and William Tritton joined the British
army and was asked to design and build tractors that could pull the very heavy
howitzers around battle fields. Later in the war Walter and William meet up to
create a armored tractor because all the rivers in them were being shoot out of
them and they need more protection so they designed a armored tractor that
later became the first tank in World War 1. In 1919 they were credited by the Royal
Commission of Awards to Inventors as the inventors on the tank. William Tritton
was knighted. They were then best friends for twenty-seven years when Sir
William Tritton dies in Lincoln eleven years after Sir William Trittons death
Walter Gordon Wilson dies.
